44 Our Procop To Dr. Domenic Procopio, Thank you is such a small word to express our gratitude for all you have done. Your guidance has been unique . . . you pushed us through Freshman year, dragged us through the Sophomore slump, sym- pathized with our Junior blues, and subdued our Sen- ior superiority. Through our triumphs and failures you have been what only you could be, patient, smil- ing, and ever-ready to give that bit of advice which so often was just the answer to our problem. We are humble that a man of your wisdom and talent should give so freely of himself to make what we think is the finest class ever to graduate from Lowell. If we are truly so, it is only because of you . . . our Procop.

DR. DOMENIC R. PROCOPIO TO THE CLASS OF 1958 In the last few years, expansion on all school levels has been and still is a very serious problem to all associated with education. A partial solution has resulted in more buildings, equipment, administrative personnel, and teachers to handle the growing classes. Such physical expansion must increase to a much greater degree in the immediate future. Thus, the theme of your Knoll is a most timely one. It is my sincere hope that all this evidence stressing the importance of the quantitative elements of expansion does not blind you to the equally important qualitative aspects. In fact, the greater the quantitative needs of the whole, the easier it is to neglect the qualitative needs of the individual. Internal growth within the student must go on as it always has when physical expansion was not so pressing. For your own development, this means that you must continue your studies on the graduate level, travel widely to encompass the results of the many educational experiments now in progress, and profit from varied educational experiences. The total of these, when integrated within yourselves, will make you more capable of assuming an objective approach to the quantitative factors of expansion. Best of all, your own self-expansion, so to speak, will make you increasingly aware of the special needs of the individual, resulting in your constant efforts to balance the quantitative and qualitative aspects of expansion.
