Our Sophomore year started on a bright note, with a new addition to our music faculty, as well as the arrival of four new professors in the elementary department. During their three years with us, they have justified the optimism with which they were greeted in Sep- tember, 1952, at our first All-College Assembly. L. to R.: G. Cunningham, 11. Drinan, M. McGanvran After this first meeting was over, and the routine of college life had begun, we once again heard the familiar cry— Hail, Juniors! Most of us, upon hearing it again, felt for an instant a cold qualm of apprehension, but we soon realized that we had no need to cringe. This time we were the innocent bystanders, and we learned how much fun initiation could be— providing one was not a freshman. L. to R.: W . Fisher, K. Kansanniva 18

By the time this party was over, we began to feel a longing for the warm sunshine of summer days at the beach. Perhaps this longing was a part of the reason why we enjoyed so much the picnic which you, our newly elected advisor, gave for us at your summer cottage in Rockport. It was like a preview of summer vacation, and it soon became a looked-forward-to annual outing. Soon final exams were upon us, and we realized that one full year at L. T. C. was com- pleted. All sense of strangeness had disappeared, and we felt like veterans of college life, when we sang our songs on Class Day of 1952, the day which ended our first year of being college students— a year made memorable by your guidance and encouragement. 17

We watched with admiration the way in which the freshmen stood up under toil and strife, and goodnaturedly obeyed the every command of their sister class. It is hard to realize that the wide-eyed frosh whom we first saw becomingly garbed in grain-bags have grown into the smart and sophisticated Junior Class. With initiation completed, we continued the cycle of college life, again highlighted by the annual parties and dances. In December of this year, the College Chorus gave an in- spired performance of The Messiah , for the benefit of the George Walsh Memorial Fund. This was very successful, and by now we were feeling quite proud of ourselves. CLASS OFFICERS-1956 L. to R.: F. Gallagher, Treasurer; ). King, President; M. Byrnes, Secretary; B. Frasier, Vice-President. Front: M. McGauvran, Advisor. 19
