H . ,Q-. 4 SY '79 is New University Spirit time! Student attitudes are changing. There-is an inspiring New Wave of concern and activism. The gap between students and faculty has been narrowed as a result of joining to fight the Administration. A kindled spark is being nurtured by a new core of students that in turn nurtures the sluggish faculty morale. The feed- back is one of realization that the faculty generally DOES care about creating a healthy academic atmosphere for the students. Building a future for UMass f Boston can be a discourag- ing task in the wake of politicians who would just as soon see us bulldozed into an insignificant community college, all for the sake of reducing state expenditures. Just how far can spending be cut back when Mass. is already the 48th lowest state on spending money for higher education? We will not be defeated! This point we are making - UMass- Boston is a power in the darkness. But a power all the same! UMass f Boston emanates a sense of realism. It isn't starkness. It's an earthy, realistic atmosphere. The body of our university is composed of people already involved in the outside world. We are working students, returning stu- dents, and determined students. We are already a part of the real world. Most of our hours of most of our days are spent off the campus. For the relatively few hours we are a part of the UMassf Boston world, we make sure it is an important part. We bring the outside world with us to classes. All the experience is collected at UMass and uti lized to give one a well-rounded college education. UMass f Boston is a melting pot of Boston's most unique people The professors come from BC, Harvard, and Princeton, to name but a few. Not only do we sit in lectures and absorb Ivy League ideas and theories, but we take those concepts directly out into the world. Normally, a college takes four years before it sends its graduates out to apply the accumu lated knowledge. UMass f Boston sends its students out each and every day. We don't wait four years, we shape the world NOW!
