5 W Three or four years ago, each one of us received an official telegram announcing our acceptance into the Walter Reed Army Institue of Nursing program. At the end of this message appeared the name of the Surgeon General of the Army, Lieutenant General Leonard D. Heaton. At that time, we were quite unaware of the effect this man was to have on each of our Lives: for it was through his efforts, because of his great interest in the nursing profession, that the WRAIN program came into being. Because we owe so much to General Heaton, We would like to begin to express our gratitude to him by giving him special recognition in the 1969 PLEDGE. 10
