'Me 3 , i?66 ' ta Dc. The 1966 edition of The Bluebonnet is dedicated by the staffgwhich created it to Mary Hardin-Baylor's Yale Scholar, Dr. Maude G. Cook, professor emeritus of foreign language who came out of re- tirement in the fall of 1965 to once again teach her beloved classes. Dr. Cook, a graduate of Yale with a major in Sanskrit, first came to Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1919 when the college was still housed for the most part in old Luther Hall. During her years of service, Dr. Cook taught German, Latin, French, and just about anything as long as it was a foreign language. She served for a number of years as librarian, taught library science and saw the library grow from a few books housed in a shed at the side of Luther to the modern Townsend Memorial Library of today. She it was who supervised the move from the old frame building into the new library and she it was who continued work on her beloved special collections even after her resignation as librarian became effective. The Texas Collection, the Old South Collection, the Shakespeare Collection, and collections of college publications such as The Bells, The Baylorian, the Bluebonnet, the Catalogue and other printed materials are a credit to her diligence and perse- verence in rescuing those parts of history and preserving them in the library. A wife, a mother, a teacher, a clubwoman, a historian, a librarian, a scholar, a linguistics expert of the first order, Dr. Maude G. Cook has given unstintingly and without reservation to Mary Hardin-Baylor during her more than 35 years as a member of the faculty. We the members of the 1966 staff of The Bluebonnet, salute you Dr. Cook and dedicate our efforts to you. 15
