NURSING is one of the service professions, and therefore carries the privilege and responsibility of helping others to attain their goals of living to the fullest extent of their capacities. I trust that your experience in the School of Nursing Education have enabled you to determine and to clarify your own place in our service to mankind, and so to have pre- pared yourself that as you return to your chosen field of nursing, you will be better able to guide and to help the individuals and the families with whom you work. ln so doing you may gain that greater measure of happiness for yourself that comes through helping others. Dorothy M. Dick Instructor in Public Health Nursing Words for Public Health Nurses EACH one of us, the day we graduated, stood starry-eyed at the hub of our pro- fessional wheel. The spokes of opportunity stretched about us, on, on to disappear at the horizon. We were eager to set out along the path we had chosen. Each on her own quest-but each ever-seeking, ever-striving to serve humanity better. The months, and for some of us the years, passed and with their passing came the more certain knowledge that to serve better we must learn and experience more. Once again we stand. This time at the outer circumference and we scanned the spokes and saw them all converging. Con- verging towards the hub-University. Thus We entered these walls of learning. The days have been too short for us to acquire all the knowledge We seek or to have all the experiences that will be invaluable to us later. However, we have been thoroughly grounded in our respective fields and each of us feels that the past University year has greatly broadened her outlook. As once again we face the horizon we know that we have a far greater store of knowledge to call upon as we enrich our experiences in serving mankind's ills. Anonymous. can-Q Page 181
