IT might be thought that there would be some difficulty in finding a message with a note of freshness and spontaneity for each succeeding graduating class of the University. Perhaps this was the case in those distant years before the war of 1914, but at the be- ginning of this new half century when history is in full flood there are many ideas which clamour for expression. None of us can prophesy with certainty the events of the immediate future, but we are all fully aware that the world pattern being un- folded before our eyes is one which will affect every one of us in a dynamic Way. No one can escape. It is not by chance that in addition to the usual subjects of the curriculum other subjects are slowly being introduced. Slavic Studies, Modern Hebrew, Icelandic Language and Literature are now offered, Chinese probably will be soon offered in the Evening Institute. The Department of Government is changing its name to Political Science and International Affairs. Practical Art has been introduced and a new approach to the courses which Page 12 I The President Dr. Il. H. S. Gillson lead to a General Degree in Arts and Science has been accepted by the Senate of the Uni- versity. This all indicates that the University is aware of the flood tide in events and is endeavouring to provide leadership to our under-graduates and graduates alike, men and women who in turn must provide the strong leadership in all fields of endeavour which our country now so urgently needs. I hope that you will remember your Alma Mater with deep affection, that you will often think of the unswerving loyalty of your teachers to the high ideals for which the University stands. I hope that you Will be active in supporting your University, not by lip service, but by taking a strong and con- tinuing interest in its policy and its develop- ment, so that your University will be able, because of the strength of your support and continuing interest, to give successfully and completely the leadership which only a University can offer. In the name of the University I Wish you a fruitful life packed with responsibility and backed by conviction and courage.

Dorothy M. Wilson Gladstone, Man. Dot is interested in being either a Dietitian or teaching Handicrafts. Formerly from Glad- stone, she has been enthusiastic in her work on the Ec-Ho Advertising Committee, as well as having curled, bowled and played hockey. Winnifred E. Wolstencroft Dahinda, Sask. Winnifred formerly spent three years in the R.C.A.F. possessing the rank of LAW. She has resolved to take up Dietetics, a career in which she seems well suited. Claire E. Warren Winnipeg. Claire has been busy taking a Dietetics Option in between being Social Rep., 1949, 19515 a member ot the Ec-Ho staff, 1950-515 Home Ec. swimming team three years: swimming Convenor, 1951, and cn the Ski Club Social Com- mittee, 195O. A member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Beverley E. Young Kamloops, B.C. Bev is an Alpha Delta Pi Sorority member, and has done a lot ot gocd work on the Ec- Ho Advertising Committee. A former St. 1ame's Collegiate grad., she has taken an interest in Dietetics. Page 155
