P. Unterschulz, Cornelius S. Unruh, Wolfgang Garten, Bernard Froese, Victor Adrian, Martin Dyck, Albert C. Kroeker, Haidi Sternbach, Frank H. Klassen, Henry Hildebrand. HE German Club is sponsored by the Department of German. lt is open to all students interested in countries where German is spoken. ln the activities of the club, great stress is placed on German liter- ature, and particularly on modern German writers. But other aspects of German lite and 'lKultur , e.g., the spirit of Christmas in Germany and Austria and the way it is celebrated there, or German music, art, and architecture, also play a prominent part. Gne leading aim of the club is to give students the opportunity to hear good spoken German, both in informal talks and conversa- tion, and even more important, to encourage them to speak German themselves. An essential feature of every meeting is the singing of German songs. Friends of German studies at our Uni- versity, and other Winnipeg citizens of Ger- man descent or interests, are regularly invited to the meetings. Several meetings were held this session under ideal conditions in a private home at the kind invitation of Mrs. Hartmann. A new departure this year was a joint meeting of the German and English Clubs, to hear a most interesting talk by Mrs. Kaufmann on her uncle Franz Kafka.
