Coming from near extinction to in the fall. the team carried Eiself lo a 4-7 season During the first two weeks of practice only four men had signed up for the squad which must have five in order to operate. Eventually the team had grown to seven when two quit and two others joined. The final team roster included -- Senior: Jim Fleming; Sophomores: Dick Gaudreau. Dick Bonaventura; Freshmen: Al McCaun, Glen Cummings, Jim Sproul. and Ralph Madore. The top five runners for UMP were: 1. McCann, 2. Sproul, 3. Gaudrean, 4 Madore, and S. Bonaventura. These top five will be. back next year to provide a fine nucleus from which 10 start. The team suffered a setback when Glen Cummings sprained his ankle In the middIe of the season. He also will be back next Ytar. The team improved ali season long. Their combined finishing times were always fasicr than the previous meei's times. An astonishing improvement of over five minutes in the intercoilegiate invitation mcet at Caslin: shuwad the pride of which this team is made. Coach Casavola instiiled this prIdc in a team which when it began seemed to face inevitable doom. Man- ager Leonard Brooks contributed his share of encouragement by keeping the iearn in one piece and cheering them up with his usual witty comments on the siate of the world in general and UMP in particular RESULTS OF THE MEETS How score winsi October 2 5!.
