N PRESIDENT'S LETTER Dear Seniors: You are graduating from college during a period of social, economic, and political unrest in many areas of the world. The winds of change are blowing in all directions and bending us hither and yon. lt behooves us to brace ourselves to resist being pushed against our will in directions which we know to be wrong. The coward easily follows blindly and is lost in the masses. The leader must have courage, especially if the cause interferes with previously held notions of superiority of one race. YOU must face up to what seem to be lapses in moral values and willingly lead in striving for human dignity and ho-nor for all people. YOU can no longer ignore abject poverty of body and mind in other regions of the world when communication has made all people next S door neighbors. O YOU can no longer take- for granted that the color of o-ne's skin or one's religious faith determines whether he is inferior or superior. , T YOU can no lo-nger consciously do nothing about the treatment of your fello-wmeng for you are being co-nstantly reminded by the press, radio, and television of their condition and status. Down through the ages many have said that the greatest enemy of poverty of mind is education and the greatest friend of freedom, decency, and dignity is education. Education has made YOU free. lt is now your responsibility to be a leader in gaining freedom for OTHERS thro-ugh education. Sincerely, if 1 93
