TClCVlSlOD Thls new medlum of entertainment has certamly affected famlly hfe Brother doesn t need to fmd reasons to take the famxly car to v1s1t a frlend because now he would rather watch the hockey game on televlslon Slster s lengthy telephone conversations are ended after about three mmutes Nothlng must mterfere wnth thxs tlme consumer Each mght after dmner sometxmes durmg the famxly gathers around the televxsxon set The trouble then begms Jumor wants the western serxal Father msxsts upon the news and Mother hopelessly exclalms that she would appreclate a musical program There seems to be a contagious dlsease among all these vnewers and xt ns what one mlght call dxalms The stations are changed so fast that one cant tell lf the last channel had a quiz program or a vaudeville act on lt Fmally the statlon IS chosen by a major lty of votes naturally Father s vote carrxes the welght of two people and the program begms Stlll all the problems arent settled Where shall we all sit? Jumor of course has placed hxmself carefully m front of the screen blockmg the vxew for everyone else There IS much pulling and pushmg of chairs and many orders are glven slmultaneously Please move your head to the rlght shouts Brother Dont do that Now your head IS m my way protests Sister At last heads and chalrs are placed so that everyone IS faxrly comfortable The program contmues to everyone s satxsfactxon untxl suddenly the pxcture becomes blurred and then vamshes from the screen completely Groans of disapproval are loudly voiced That was my favorlte program Why does lt have to happen tomghti' ' Then a voxce comes over the televlslon set explammg that the coaxial cable has broken and xt IS bemg repalred as qulckly as possxble In the meantxme there w1ll be a musxcal mterlude from the transmnsslon studxo And so here ends a lost mght around the televnsxon set Ruth Langs Semor Memones of 1 Semor Every year at Song Contest we smg of Llggetts lvy covered walls welcommg gates and frlendly at mosphere but there are memorles loves and S3t1Sf3C tions that cant be put mto songs or even words My memory lS filled with happmess dxsappomt ment love hate tenslons and thankfulness too all whlch have come to me here daxly Llggett IS my school I am one of 1ts semors In earller days my many studies and responsnbllxtles dlsturbed me but never thought on that day when I f1rst walked down Llggett s halls that I would one day be sorry to leave I walked at Mothers stde mto the strange bulldxng whxch would soon be llke a second home The famxllar smells of floor varmsh and chalk dust were comfortmg to one as alone as I felt Yes these were my feelmgs before I became a workmg part of Mlss Cole s class What do I remem ber of those chlldhood days? Oh' so many thmgs hxdmg behmd the school durmg geography and havmg the fxfth grade sent out to fmd us, laughmg the tlme Mlss Cole banged her hand on a desk m anger and the leg broke wmnmg the prlze on May Day getting caught cheatmg throwmg peas at lunch bemg a priest m the Chrxstmas play and most of all hearmg Miss Ogden read MY name as the wmner of the Polly Hebb Award But a chlld grows up as I dxd and I found myself m upper school Every week brought a new dlscovery Joy or dxsappomtment Ill never forget Freshman Week when I pushed a peanut around the hockey field wlth my nose or when I faxled my first ancient htstory test Then came the txme when I was an Indnan m the Thanksgxvmg play and the first ttme I wore my whtte skirt for the Chrxstmas program All these came to me as a freshman but there are more recollections from my sophomore and Juntor years What of those two? Well I recall very well the sophomore dance when my angora sweater rumed my date s navy suxt the red and whxte of my three song contests bemg a crazy woman m the tenth grade play Nancy Burgess as May Queen the ban quets class parttes RIVISTAS GOPHERS and belng a member of the Self Government Board Why do I remember these? I thmk you can guess Not only because I hated or loved them but because I m a senxor, and these carefree days are almost at an end for me Thxs year wnll be filled wtth many more memorxes the hockey games my term paper the semor dmner the class motto proms partnes RIVISTA plctures the Chnstmas tableau Smg Out May Day and the senlor room the bright fnendly room wtth the whxte curtams coke machme fudge fnendshnps laughs and on the steamed wmdow Sue loves Home Luggett ns my school the school I love a vital part of me as these recollections will be So you see when the class of mneteen flfty walks down the audltonum alsle smgmg We Thy Semors Hall Thee well know what those words mean and our memorxes wlll be llke those joyous letters on the steamed wxndow a dream which drips and drops down the slippery pane soon to become but a puddle of tears Barbara Carse Semor . . . .... . , . . . . .
