Rows of bunk beds were placed in the top floors of Blanding and Kirwan Towers at the beginning of the 1987- 88 school year as a result of the over- population of students and insufficient housing. This could have been a result of the all-time record high enrollment set by UK of over 50,000 students at the community colleges around the state as well as the Lexington rcampus.
