Thus. Homecomrng '74 provrded somethrng tor everyone. The parade got thrngs rolling on Thursday nrght. The Grand Marshallr rrdrng In a 1930's automobile was Colonel Harlan Sanders Football coach Fran Curcr, basketball coach Joe Hatt, and tormer basketbatt coach Adolph Rupp added prestrge t0 the parade. Addrng beauty were Mrss Lexington, June Waltace, and Valerre Parr, Lexington's Junior Mrss, Provrding the onty musrc for the parade was the Wildcat marchrng Band. The Homecoming Queen candidates rode m drfterent-cotored Porsches. shrverrng and waving atong the route. The floats were made by 10 fraternities and erght sororitres. Producmg the wrnnrng float were Pr Beta Phr, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Kappa Tau, Farmhouse and Sigma Alpha Epsilon t0 the theme of ttCats Strll Commor dores. The second ptace tloat, Sent Up the Rlver was built by Atpha Delta Pr, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Alpha Gamma Rho. Followrng the parade was a pep ratly rn Commonwealth Stadrum, where tradrtron was broken by crowning the Homecomrng Queen before the game. 3. n m E n :i

It was hoped LGIIISVIiIe would down UCLA and make It a real Kentucky stand off hetweent the two Kentucky team. On the community side Harrodsburg started With the celebration of Its toundmg In 1774. and there was also the reconstruction at Fort Booneshoro. As the year went on Pioneer Jim set out In a covered wagon carrying a cornerstone for the new CIVIC Center from Lexmgton Mass to LexIngton Ky Just In time for the event, downtown Lexington s cobblestone SIdewalks were near com- pletion marking the start of much at Lexington 5 urban renewal protects. When the cornerstone arrived a bicentennial evening par- ade WIth floats, bands and amusements filled the am After wards a seven block street dahce was held on Vine, Everything seems to have gone ubicentenniai. and yet, most undisturbs the lIves ot the UK student. y n m z 1 a x' Gall Gatewood, an Education senior representing Holmes Hall, was crowned UKts 1974 Homecoming Queen. Fmals for different contests wete held during the rally. Kappa Delta representative, Pauta Austin, won the Women's Division 01 the football throwmg contest. Winning the mascot contest as a wathmg outhouse was Wayne Ulrey 0t Atpha Epshon Pi. To take the spectators' mmds off the cold, 3 fireworks Show, With spectacutar arrays of bright reds and oranges, ended the pep rally The Student Center Board picked a winner by having America per form for the Homecoming concert. The crowd of over 12,000 piled into Memorial Cohseum welcomed the toureman group With warm applauds. K. DANSBV An added touch to the game on Saturday was the fact that tt was being regionally tetevised by ABC Sports. ThtS exutemeht, ptus a halthme head over nattonatly-ranked Vanderbttt, made for a great haltttme cetebration.
