PURE WATER As a concerned member of Gomers for Pure Water, I feel I must implore you to use your influence to persuade all Amer- icans to wear Waders. Kimmle Steele Wilson We share your concern for this grave national problem but due to the energy shortage and the high cost of rubber, we feel that this would not be in the national interest at this time. Sometimes, as students, the only recognition we offer as comfort to those concerned educators we discover is our mesmerized attention, compulsive imitation, or later years of silent respect. Only once a year does the graduating senior class choose the faculty member who has shown the greatest devotion to his primary duty as teacher of medical stu- dents. This year, the class of 1975 proudly attaches the name of Robert P. Hudson to this list of outstanding educators. Dr. Hudson's awareness of the importance of medical education started long before his appointment to the Kansas University , faculty in 1958. Indeed, it was Dr. Hudson, himself, who, aseditor of the 1952 JAYHAWKER M.D., established this award. It is a remarkable tribute to Dr. Hudson that he has not swayed from the ideals that inspired him to create the JAYHAWK ER M.D. AWARD 24 years ago. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from Kansas University , in 1949, Dr. Hudson continued his medical education at Kansas University, graduating in 1952. He interned at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City and then spent two years with the United States Army as a paratrooper before returning to Kansas University as a resident in Internal Medicine. After completing his residency, Dr. Hudson spent a year studying Allergy and Dermatology at Colum- bia, John Hopkins, and the University of Michigan. His long standing interest in the moral and ethical implications of medicine culminated in a Masters Degree in Medical History from John Hopkins in 1966. He has served on many faculty and administra- tive committees and has been an exchange professor in the Philippines and in Columbia, South America. He is currently Associate Professor of Medicine, and Chairman of the Department of the History of Medicine. The Senior Class of 1975, and the staff of the 1975 JAYHAWKER M.D. congratulate Dr. Robert P. Hudson, and thank him for the concern and respect he has shown us as students over the last three years.
