Election Day aff.. Election day brought interest and enthusiasm to SUI as it did to the rest of the country, All of the qualified students rushed to cast their votes for their favorite candidate. Almost everyone burn- ed the night oil, not to study but to listen for the returns, Many took advantage of the TV lounges in the Union to see who would be the next president. Although many were not old enough to vote, they were able to express their sentiments in the campus straw vote set up bv WSUI at registration. The results of this straw ballot was the same as that of the nation. Of great interest to many SUI students was Eisenhowefs ap- pearance in Iowa City on Sep- tember 18. He made a speech from the rear platform of his train. Many students and Iowa City residents stood in the rain to hear him. The many arguments between Stevenson supporters and I like Ike cryers indicate that SUI stu- dents have a keen interest in elec- tions and national affairs. Even Democrats stood in thc rain to sec lkc. A busy day for poll officials . , , and janitors! vii' P EL .I
