These must all be well directed if their work is to produce good results. The University of Illinois administrative oflicials are responsible for seeing that these results function as a unit. They must consider the past and anticipate the future along with the current prob- lems. It touches almost every field of human interest and activity from the classics to present day gov- ernment, business, and scientinc principles. So the Univcrsityls pattern of operation has come to be very complex-and expensive. It is largely financed by tax funds from the citizens. Therefore the administration has the task of provid- ing a good educational program as etliciently as possible. The president is aided by the other executive members, deans and directors of the educational and research units, and the Board of Trustees, which selects the president and directs the general policies of administration.
