Presidenfs essage In the past year we have witnessed a reawakening of Illini spirit. Through the medium of the University of Illinois Foundation, alumni in all sections of the country have reaffirmed their faith in Illinois Loyalty. To my mind, Illini Spirit and Loyalty is one of the University's greatest assets, and perhaps it is so close to some of us that its potentialities have not always been fully appreciated. Wfherever I have met with Illini, I have found a deep and abiding faith in Illinois which I assure you is priceless to one in my position. No group of citizens is more interested in the progress and welfare of a college or university than its alumni. Time and again in the history of our colleges and universities this interest has developed into a lifelong contact be- tween alumni and alma mater with results mutually stimulating and beneficial. Those of you who are now members of the student body will one day join that band of alumni. May your experiences here have been so enriching that, whether inspired by a sense of loyalty, pride, or obligation, you will wish to repay in some measure by your contribution to Illini Spirit and Loyalty. Board of Truflfe: 0 the Student of llinoi The University of Illinois is an institution of scholarship and research, dedicated to the service of the state and nation. This notable agency of the state would not be possible had it not been for the visicn of men of other days and the heritage left by them, A foundation, secure and sound, was thus laid and an institution created devoted to public welfare. The investment made by the state in creating the Univer- sity of Illinois has proven an excellent one and the dividends have been large. The great task must be carried on these days, mere intensified and perplexing, to the end that the Uni- versity may make its services effective in .1 complex: civilization. The administration of the University is in charge of forward looking men and women with the vision of its founders, and the people of the state may view its work with confidence and pride. In extending its greetings to the students and friends of the University, the Board of Trustees de- sires the continued cooperation of the state, the stu- dents, the alumni and faculty in further advancing this great enterprise in higher education.
