u -:ru nE1lgp5,4Un mn q ii, THE CCLLEGE FREDERICK BOGUE NOYES was born in Chicago on August 22 1872. He was graduated from Beloit Academy in 1889 and received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University in 1893 and that of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1895 at Northwestern University. He began practicing dentistry in Chicago in 1895' since 1909 he has .specialized in Orthodontia. From 1897 to 1913 Dr. Noyes was Professor of Histology in Northwestern University Dental School. In 1914 he became Head of the Department of Histology and Orthodontia in the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and served in that capacity until 1926 when he succeeded to the Deanship of the College of Dentistry. HE newest departure in the College of Dentistry is the estabhshment of extension courses which enable the practicing dentist to keep in touch with contemporary developments in his profession Two groups of 'courses are available. The education of the public to appreciate the value of the Children's Clinic has required only a short time. Established five years ago it has reached the limit of its capacity, and throughout each year there is an extensive waiting list. DAVIS O DOUBT the most outstanding recent feature in the work oi the College of Medicine was the opening of the new Research and Educational Hos- pital in 1925. During the past year the work has speedily progressed, and at the present time, 150 pa- tients are housed here. Practically all departments are now organized, and active teaching and research is 'l'l'lE CDLLEGE DE MEDICINE Davin Jom: Davis, Dean of the College of Medicine, was born in Racing Wisconsin, on August 10, 1875. He studied first at the Racine Academy and later at the Universities of Wisconsin, Vienna, and Freiberg, and at Rush Medical College. He served in the capacity of Pathologist at St. Luke's Hospital in 1911-13, and became a Professor of Pathology and Bacteriology at the College of Medicine in 1913. He has written several treatises on Bacteriology and is the author of other medical papers. He began serving ,hrst as Acting Dean in April, 1925, and succeeded to the Deansliip in Sep- tember, 1925. going on in connection with the medical school. This hospital has furnished something that the College of Medicine has never had before, namely, hospital pa- tients absolutely controlled so far as their medical service is concerned, thereby providing for the study of cases in a way that is not possible in the ordinary private or semi-public institutions. A four-year curriculum was outlined in IQO5 and the professional program has developed since that time. The work is now organized on a junior-senior- graduate basis leading to distinct degrees. Freshmen and sophomores have an opportunity to register in a pre-journalism course within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. During the freshman and sophomore years in the pre-journalism course the emphasis is placed on general and cultural studies, and during the years in the School of Journalism the emphasis is placed on journalism, social sciences, literature and similar sub- jects that play an important part in journalistic work.
