Therefore, our Country, through its Commonwealths, is devoting much of its' resources to the education of its youth. The University of Illinois, as part of the educational system of the State, is maintained primarily to educate, for the public service in a large sense, those who come to it. Whatever personal success you attain in your indi- vidual callings will contribute, directly or indirectly, to the public welfare. One of the finest ideals that a univer- sity trained man or woman can have is a sense of duty to the public in return for the opportunities it has given him for self-improvement.
