Cheerleaders are awarded Mr. and Miss UH in subdued Homecoming ceremonies Above Shasta leads Charles Beasley and the Cougar Guard across the field and on to the sidelines before the game Houston's steadily waning Homecoming spirit seemed to reach a new low in late September when the annual week-long festivities sprang upon a generally unsuspecting and uninterested student body. Involvement was crucial to only a few die-hards — the cheerleaders, alumni, and a handful of homecoming queen candidates who did their best to arouse dormant student interest. Cheerleaders Billy Bishop and Carolyn Redd were awarded watches and the titles of Mr. and Miss UH du'i halftime ceremonies at the UH-SK game, thus ending a tradition of p enting roses to the winning qu candidate.  Crazy carnival week amuses UH thrillseekers Fall carniva Penthouse Magazine and Phi Kappa Theta were among a committee of sponsors for the 2nd annual UH Fall Carnival held October 3 in Lynn Eusan Park. The carnival climaxed a week of zany activities which included a pie fight and a record breaking water balloon fight between Jack-in-the-Box and McDonald's supporters. Each side was equipped with 5,000 balloons supplied by the fast food sponsors, making it the largest balloon battle ever staged and earning it a spot in the Guiness Book of World Records. Below A carnival-goer tries an unsteady hand at bottle balancing, one ot 65 attractions at the fair Right Bonnye Weinstein (So-B»o) and Tab Finc-hum (So-Bus) drop out ot contention tor the tricycle race title Campus organizations rented booths and sponsored contests in an effort to raise money for themselves. Attractions at the day-long amusement included a tricycle race, a dunking booth, rope ladder, flea market, ring toss, and food and beer booths. Special guests at the carnival were Marvin Zindler from Eyewitness News, actress Martha Raye, and disc jockeys Hudson and Harrigan from radio station KILT. Ronald McDonald made a special appearance with Penthouse’s Pet of the Year, Anneka DeLorenzo.
