Sept. 2: Time to start all over again An always all-too short summer vacation ended on Sept. 2 for 30,000 UHers. In their period of adjustment back into academic life students again encountered Houston's somewhat routine amusements, but indulged in several unique pastimes as well. Iranian students immediately took up their never-ending demonstrations against the Shah of Iran before a usually unattentive UC crowd. Inside. Arbor entertainment attracted passing spectators as did the sudden clothing of Science and Research's Sandy in a Defined Space.” At the Satellite a new series of air hockey tournaments engaged citywide enthusiasts. Before the month was out. the yearbook was once again hounding students to have portraits taken and a reckless few later found the experience to be quite painless. Practice hours pay off for half time entertainers Hundreds of hours of dutiful practice cut short summer vacation for UH's 250-member marching band. The pre-game and post-game music makers drilled daily from early morning to late evening, and partied afterwards. Under the direction of William Mof-fitt, and drum major-son Rick Moffitt, the band performed their intricate routines for attentive football fans and hosted the annual Band Night for high school musicians. Adding to the UH band's halftime performances, the pretty Cougar Dolls pleased the sports enthusiasts with their high kicks, hand routines and contagions.
