University President Philip G. Hoffman Dr. Philip G. Hoffman has concluded a most active fourth year as president of tin- University of Houston. Aside from executing the many duties of his position. Dr. Hoffman has often been called upon to perform special services. One of the highlights of the past year was Dr. Hoffman's trip to Algeria in July as a representative of the United States and President Lyndon Johnson to the “Education for Progress” exhibition. Sponsored by the Department of Commerce, the exhibit was for the purpose of demonstrating the United States' interest in the problems of Algeria. Dr. Hoffman also journeyed to the University of the Americas in Mexico City in the fall as a delegate from the Southern Association of American Colleges and Universities. He later was appointed as consultant for the Agency for International Development to study the University of the Americas. In the midst of his travels. President Hoffman finds time to attend football and basketball games with the teams, plus entertaining visiting dignitaries such as Governor John Connally. Secretary of State Dean Rusk, and ambassadors from Iran and France. He currently is serving as president of the Houston G uncil on World Affairs. 15 President Hoffman i engrossed in the action of the UH-Penn State football game.
