INTRODUCTION A university is more than simply a group of buildings housing laboratories, offices and classrooms. It is the students who every day put life into these buildings ... it is the professors who pass knowledge acquired during years of study on to the students ... it is the administrators who coordinate the activities of both students and faculty into a smooth-functioning institution. But above these material ingredients of college is an intangible spirit of pride in the school which sets it apart from similar groups. University of Houston students, faculty and administration have displayed this feeling of pride in their school to such a degree that the University has become an educational center known throughout the world. The attitude of always progressing has not only furthered the physical facilities of the university, but has built Houston's reputation as a school for students to the highest pinnacle in the school’s history. Classroom work doesn't consume all the students’ time. The fraternity parties . . . the all-school dances . . . the athletic contests . . . the bridge games in Cougar Den . . . these are all a part of four years of schooling. The college yearbook has the responsibility of recording the year’s college life, both in the classroom and out. It is also the objective of the staff to insert some of the high esprit de corps exhibited by University of Houston students. We’ve tried, and here it is: your 1962 HOUSTONIAN. Gayle Smiley
