Heyne Building, the College of Pharmacy contains research facilities such as the Mading Prescription Laboratory, the Women’s Auxiliary Pharmacognosy Laboratory, the Pharmaceutical Chemical Laboratory and the Operative Pharmacy Laboratory. Limited enrollment in each of these laboratories assures personal instruction for students. DEAN—Dr. Noel M. Ferguson, dean of the College since 1919. has been actively engaged in the pharmaceutical world since 1930. either in education or directly in the profession. 27 LABORATORY WORK is an integral part of a student’s work in the College of Pharmacy.

Optometry DR. CHESTER H. PHEIFFER COLLEGE AIMS TO TRAIN STUDENTS IN VISUAL SCIENCE Opened in 1952. the College of Optometry is the only one of its kind in the southwest. Major objectives of the College are to train its students in the knowledge and skills used in the practice of optometry and to provide an understanding of the basic facts in the field of visual science. DEAN—Or. Chester H. Pheiffer joined the I’niversity of Houston faculty in 1951. The author of many articles in optometric journals. Dr. Pheiffer assumed his duties as dean in June of 1961. 26 OPTOMETRY STUDENTS examine a patient in the Optometry Clinic, located in the basement of the Science Building.

Technology Colleges A. HAY SIMS TECHNOLOGY HAS TWO DIVISIONS Two divisions are included in the College of Technolog)', established at the University in 1941. One is the Technical Institute Division, which is concerned with the education and training of engineering technicians; the men who plan, build, test, operate and sen-ice the technological equipment designed and developed by the scientist and the engineer. Also included is the Industrial-Mechanical Division. concerned with the training of skilled technicians. the persons trained to install, repair and operate machinery. DEAN—A. Hay Sims, dean of the Gdlcgc of Technolog)-, is an authority on technical institute education. Dean Sims was one of six technical education officials to visit the Soviet Union during May, 1961, under a Cultural Exchange Agreement. 28 DIESEL MACHINERY i« included in the facilities of the College of Technology.
