Architecture ARCHITECTS LEARN ALL PHASES OF THEIR PROFESSION Education for the professional practice of architecture is the purpose of the College of Architecture. The College integrates all phases of architectural instruction into four channels: design, construction, aesthetics and graphics. Students are instructed by persons who arc active in the profession. DEAN—Richard W. Lil-liott entered University of Houston service in 1911. Colleges Junior College JUNIOR COLLEGE CONFERS DIPLOMAS One of the largest in the state, the I diversity of Houston Junior College confers degrees and diplomas after completion of required courses. The College was established in 1027 by the Board of Education as the Houston Junior College. In 1934, with the formation of the University of Houston, the Junior College was continued as part of the system. DEAN—Dr. Charles F. Hiller assumed the position of Junior College dean in 1055. He has served as hursar. registrar, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and vice-president in charge of development and public relations. Graduate School 1)1!. CHARLES F. HILLER VARIOUS DEGREES ARE OFFERED BY UH GRADUATE SCHOOL Graduate work, first offerer! at the University in 1030. now includes masters degrees in most of the undergraduate curriculum. Doctorates are offerer! in education, psychology, chemistry, chemical engineering, economics and biology. Stressed are basic academic prc| aration upon admission and an increasing trend toward thesis and dissertation requirements. DEAN Dr. R. Balfour Daniels took his position in September, 1050. Arts and Sciences Colleges LARGEST COLLEGE OFFERS BASIS FOR BROAD EDUCATION Arts and Sciences, the largest of the University’s ten colleges, offers a basis for a broad, liberal education. The College also offers preprofessional training for students planning to enter professions. Special facilities include the language and science laboratories, KUHT-TV, KUHF.FM, the COUGAR, the HOUSTONIAN, concerts and recitals by the music department, drama department productions and debate teams in the speech department. DEAN—Joining the University faculty in 1953 as an assistant professor of foreign languages. Dr. Alfred R. Neumann is a specialist in German studies. He has lectured and written extensively on the interrelation of German music and literature. Dr. Neumann was promoted from acting dean to dean of the College in September of 1959. DR. ALFRED R.
