24 LT. GENERAL A. D. BRUCE The publication of this volume of the Houstonian marks the end of my second year as a pan of this institution. It has been a full year, and, it is believed, a good one. We have made progress in a number of directions. Today we are executing plans made yesterday, or a year ago, or ten years ago. We must remember, however, that the shape of further progress will be determined by the courage and initiative we bring to our thinking today. This is as true for the individual as it is for the institution. The progress of this University will be whatever progress you, as a member of its student body, will be able to make as a human being.
