. K l Charles Thompson becomes a blur with the great speed he uses to execute his broad jump. Sportsmanship Thrives Mentor Harold Cole headed this year's track team which consisted mainly of jun- iors and freshmen with just a sprinkling of sophomores. Concentrating on sprints, the boys placed many times in triangular meets. Running in the novice division were freshmen Chester Salvador, Andrew Hashi- moto, and Dewey Tom. These boys par- ticipated in the century and the 440. Char- les Thompson was the only sprinter from University High School running in the open division. Running the 100 yard dash and broadjumping in the open division were Thompson's favorite events. UHS - Dole Intermediate game. And Ball Handlers Are Many An unofficial eighth-ninth grade basket- ball team was formed this year under the direction of Mr. Henry Tominaga and Mr. Edward Tam. Games were played against various schools such as Dole Intermediate. The team practiced at the old Univer- sity of Hawaii gym along with the varsity, sharing the court every day after school. They drilled hard, played valiantly at all games, and showed much ability in handl- ing the ball. They're fine prospects for next year's varsity.
