Homecoming University lligh School celebrated its first homecoming january 18. At this time the queen of 1941 was crowned. The opening eve11t featured a parade procession with U. High's band, students, and float artists competing for awards. As a special toast to former graduates, Zlll alumni banquet was held at Hank's, a local restaurant, where seniors of 1941 chatted with seniors of the IQ3O'S. Movie minded people enjoyed a full length film, Peck, Bad Boy at the Circus, in the l.ittle Theater preceding the coronation of the queen. The aroused spirit of the celebration for a victory in a basketball bout with the I.ynx's rivals, Community lligh, was not dampened as they fell to defeat before Carbondale fans. A tense atmosphere was finally relieved on the last evening of the celebration when Mary Ellen Potts was crowned queen of University High School for 1941. lilaborate decorations festooned the occasion. The queen was attended by two girls from each of the Five grades, while the seniors were repre- sented by four attendants. The attendants were: Bette Allen, Agnes Greer, Mary Anne Stearns, Lucille Parrish. Myra Milton, Katherine Moseley, Betty Hunter. Mary lillen U'Brien, VVilla Mae North, Barbara Weller, Phyllis Austin, Harriet Fisher, and ,loan Goforth. A happy, first homecoming ended with a modern dance for the high school and the alumni.
