Mixed Chorus This year, 1940-1941, marks the second year for the mixed chorus which is composed of members of the Girls' Glee Club and the Boys' Chorus. They are from the four upper classes: freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. During their first year they placed second in both district and state contests. They worked hard this year. Their goal: a rating of first in the spring contest, enabling them to enter state wide competition. First row-Bateman, Vaughn, Stafford, V. Robertson, Betts, Carter, H. Johnson, Smith, Greathouse, E. johnson, Potts. and Mitchell. Second row-Hilton, Craig, McMillan, Logue, Ridgeway, C. Robertson, Kirk, McIntosh, Boals, Halterman, Hunter, Moseley, and O'Daniel. Girls' Glee Club The Girls' Glee Club, under the direction of Mr. Floyd Wakeland, is in its second year of existence. Last year in the contests it took second in district and second in state. This year they are entering the district contest and hope they are fortunate enough to go to state. Nine of the members of the Glee Club make up a Small Ensemble, they are: Carrington, Mitchell, Vaughn, Craig, Moseley, Hil- ton, Greathouse, Smith, and johnson. Moseley, Bateman, Colp, Spear. Men's Glee Club The Men's Glee Club, under the direction of Mr. Floyd Wakeland, has had a highly successful year. The club made plans to enter the vocal contest held each spring. As yet the club is small, but the voices are promising, and the group is looking forward to future years. The club is composed of students enrolled in all six years of high school. Mem- bership is voluntary and a year's participation entitles each to a pin and one-fourth credit. Dramatics Club The Dramatics Club of University High School has been highly successful this year. Sponsored by Miss Wells and her student teacher, Miss Milligan, the club has presented a number of plays given in the assembly. Some of these plays were: Dumb Dora, The Spider, While the Toast Burned, 'tWhere But in America, and a number of short skits. The club meets every other Thursday and is entertained with a program. Phi Lambda Kappa The Phi Lambda Kappa was newly organized this fall. It combines the Latin and French clubs of last year. The purpose of the club is to promote interest in foreign languages. Meetings are held twice each month, one is a business meeting and the other a social meeting. Outstanding events of the year included a Roman Banquet and initiation. Poetry Club The Poetry Club was organized for the first time during this past winter for the purpose of fostering a better understanding and appreciation of good poetry. Originated and sponsored by Miss Florence Wells, the organization had the active leadership of the English III student teachers, Mrs. Robert Collard and Miss Ellen Maynard. It was agreed not to have any formal organization. Thus, no officers were elected, and no permanent roll of members was made. All who had an in- terest in poetry were equally welcome at the bi-weekly meetings. Choric reading was the principal activity of the club. First row-Patterson, Spear, Fisher, N.
