They are: Wilburn Bittle, Wallace Cagle, Ralph Carter, George Elston, Bob Hall, Gene Lautz, Ray Thomas, Russell Thompson, and James Wheat. Bob Hall, who was made center on the All-State six-man football team, will be missed greatly by the football boys next year. Those who will be back for the team next year are: Edward Betts, Charles Friedline, Lawrence Hill, David McIntosh, Bill Parrish, and Bob Reynolds. The Mummy Case-Page twenty-four

VVith no previous football experience and little practice, the team won two games and lost tive during the season. They defeated Mounds and Valier, but lost two games to Sesser and Royalton and one to Valier. The team placed third in the Southern Illinois Conference. During the Christmas holidays the team placed second in the Southern Conference Tour- nament by defeating Crab Orchard and Sesser. Hearst-Bush won in the final game with C. High causing the team to receive second rank. In conference play nine games were won and four lost. The season taken as a whole shows fifteen games won by the Lynxes as compared with thirteen losses. Highlights of the season was the Homecoming game with Carbondale Community High School. This second of the city championship series was won by C. C. H. S. in a game which provided many thrills for fans of both teams, and helped to make the first Homecoming successful. The season ended with U. High's losing their first game in the regional tournament. Only three members of this year's team were of the class of 1941, and, conse- fluently, the team has bright prospects for the 1941-1942 season. Those who grad- uate are George lilston, Ray Thomas, and Russell Thompson. Much of the credit for the success of this season's team must go to Coach Rockwell lVlcCreight whose good sportsmanship has done much to win the respect of all who know him.
