graduation-reality As the years progress the longing to graduate becomes a reality. The feeling of graduation begins to take hold. On Recognition Day the seniors begin to realize they are the ones graduating. .lust by the simple things- getting to sit wherever you want and in the chairs, no less! As individuals are called to the front to receive awards their knees begin to knock. Then the big moment of closing the assembly- and singing the school song. As the music plays and the voices begin to sing many of the seniors find them- selves losing something on the inside which they cannot seem to understand. Following recognition comes the fun of play day, Seniors everywhere, some are in the pool, playing putt-putt, playing tennis, sunbathing, football, perhaps a game of volleyball, or stuffing those undernourished mouths. Time passes and play day comes to an end. But all the excitement isn't over yet. The very next night the reality of the Senior Prom. The looks of those at play day, then at the prom create a completely different image. With all the work and time put into the prom, the enioyment is at a climax with the music playing and the atmosphere of India. This is the close for seniors but it is the beginning ofa new world full of responsibility and acceptances. Jimmy Etheridge, Martha Cagle, and Debbie Buelow iopposite leftl begin the long wait as several seniors come forward ta receive various awards. Carla Graham Copposite right topj ac- cepts her certificate and plaque for serving as lieutenant in Highlighters while other seniors watch. Wanda and Billy Robinson iopposite centerj seem interested in the other swimmers while they take time out for a break. Jerry Mer- ritt Copposite bottoml creates a new pose for, modern sculpture with the help of James Sowders, Malcolm Frasier, Wayne Kirkpatrick, and some unknown tackler. Jimmy Ortega and Sharon Rawls ilefti add some touches of perfec- tion toward decorations for the prom, 161
