GEOMETRICALLY YOURS One of the most popular teachers among U.H.S. seniors is Mr. Frank Green. His life is not only devoted to teaching, but also to his lovely daughter. Lola, who is a photographer in Atlanta, Georgia. nies ee After graduation valedictorian from Carver High in Delray Beach, Flori- da, Mr. Green enlisted in the Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was also stationed at Camp Lee in Virginia. He has had the opportunity to give his services overseas, in Africa, Italy, France, Germany, and Belgium. In 1946 when he returned to the states, Mr. Green attended Howard University. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in physics and math. After working for seven years with Wallace and Tierny Chemicals, he went back to school for certification to teach. His education earned him a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters Equivalence in Mathematics. In 1959 Mr. Green substituted at Clinton Place Jr. High for seven month. Then he transferred to West Kinney Jr. High until 1969. Mr. Green was one of the original teachers chosen to start with University High, which began at Mal- colm-X Shabazz ($.W.A.S.). Having taught for 28 years, Mr. Green states, “Teaching was not my first choice. | wanted to be an engineer, but now that | am a teacher, teaching is my whole life.” In his spare time Mr. Green enjoys tennis, chess, jazz music, and social activities such as dancing. He also partic- ipates in the Recreation and Cultural Committee in Montclair. ee peek In closing, Mr. Green feels that the Class Of '86 is one of the classes he feels closest to. JOSEPH MCELROY Department Chairmen GLORIA MCNEIL Security MARVA PETERMAN Librarian DEBORAH PHINISEE Special Education A SOLID FOUNDATION Mrs. Joylette Mills Ransome one of U.H.S.’s best science teacher's has been teaching for a period of fifteen years. During this time she has established herself in a substantial number of civic and professional activities such as being president of the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is Program Chairperson of the 1986 Black Women’s History Conference, Member of the Advisory Board of the New Jersey Division of the National Council of Negro Women and advisor of the Na- tional Honor Society and Junior National Honor Society at University High School. Her educational background consists of a Bachelor of Sci- ence Degree received at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, a Medical Technology Degree received at Freedmen’s School of Medical Technology in Washington, D.C., and a Masters of Education Degree which she re- ceived at Rutgers University. Some of her hobbies include reading, mental board games, bowling, cards, macrame and crocheting. She believes that “The most striking attribute of the Class Of 1986 is PERSONALITY. The majority of the class possesses the necessary three C's. They are congenial, courteous, and cooperative. These qualities have enabled them to work together to attain success in various academic endeavors, sports, the performing arts, and school organizations.
