MARCH TO THE STATES BOYS’ BASKETBALL The 1985-86 Boy’s Basketball season, has been considered our best,not only in the win-loss column but also emo- tionally in terms of school spirit and unity. The varsity team has compiled a eleven and six record going into state tournaments. The coaches and players both attribute this to an un- usually competitive schedule. Injuries and ineligibility to key players did not help the situation any. Major losses to teams such as Science High and Vero- na, deeply effected the morale of the team. An important win for the Mighty Phoenix was the home game against Irvington Tech, clinching the game by three points in the last forty seconds. This win signified the turning point of trading losses, and the players went on to win six straight games led by team leaders Lance Calhoun, Phillip McBurrows, and Lateef Sarnor.
