I would like to express my gratitude to University High School for its excellent college preparatory curriculum and its dedicated faculty. They enabled me to seek an invaluable learning experience that still has special value in my life. I attended the Encampment for Citizenship program for six weeks during my senior summer in Washington, D.C. with 51 other students coming from all over the world, with diverse cultures and backgrounds. Living with these strangers was a unique situation in itself, almost Utopia, completely opposite to our present society. Everyone learned and grew together in harmony, with sharing and trust as the most demonstrated character traits. Some of the topics discussed were values, competition and its affects, media, capitalism, racism, sexism and world foreign policy. Upon my arrival, the Encampment accepted an ignorant, conditioned product of society, and upon departure, the Encampment released an aware, mature, altruistic critic of society.
