The Speech and Debate Team provides students with the opportunity to develop and improve their speaking and debating skills in league, invita- tional, and service club competitions. The team attends approximately 25 competitions a year both in California and through- out the nation. Novice and varsity speakers also work to achieve membership in the National Forensic League, a national honor society. This year ' s team looks forward to attending the state finals at USC and the national finals in Utah. Classical Music The Classical Music Club is a group of classical music lovers. We get together in workshops to socialize and appreciate Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, etc., and we go to concerts and many other places of interest. This year ' s activi- ties included: a trip to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to see Zubin Mehta and Isaac Stern, a workshop with the New York String Quartet, a trip to the Hol- lywood Bowl, and our own concert. The Life members (Seal Bearers) are qualified for special C.S.F. scholar- ships at various colleges and universities. Through- out the United States, ranging from $250 to $5000 in value. In addition to their studies, members enjoy an annual C.S.F. night at Disneyland and other cultural events dur- ing the school year. Clubs 127

JCL Toga . . . Toga . . . Toga!! No, it ' s not Animal House, but it ' s a unique club cam- pus — )CL! The Junior Classical League is an organization offering Latin students the opportunity to get together and have a great time . . . the Roman way! The year begins with a supernatural initiation for the plebes, (n ew mem- bers). Other major activi- ties during the year are the Dies Stultorum, a wacky Roman day for all the JCL chapters throughout Southern California and the annual state JCL Con- vention where students don their togas for a wild weekend-complete with: an Olympics, chariot races, academic competi- tions, and a Roman ban- quet. Many other exciting activities make JCL an experience! Exchange The Junior Exchange Club a student division of the Men ' s Irvine Exchange, is a conglomerate of active students willing to volun- teer their services. Most of the club ' s annual activities are a tradition, which we are proud of. We help the Irvine Exchange Club with their community service projects such as: the Irvine Search for Talent con- test, senior athlete award banquet, the Harvest Festi- val, the University High School Carnival, and our biggest pride, the Red Cross Blood Drive.
