Encouraged by their outstanding coach, Michelle La Fleur, the team had many close and exciting games, including their victory over Corona Del Mar, where they won, 18-16, 15-7. Ending the season with an overall record of 12 wins and 5 losses, they played with spirit and enthusiasm. Special congratulations to Erin Wetzel, team captain, who was named to the lst team all South Coast League, and Sue Walker, who received an Honorable Mention. The Junior Varsity team also did well in league, with an over- all 13-4 record. Only losing to Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar, they showed great promise. Through hard work and practice, this year's tennis team truly, came a long way, said Coach Sparks. Though composed mostly of players with little experience, the team played competitively and never gave up. Coach Sparks also commented that they showed a great deal of flexi- bility when it came time to put forth the best possible teams at match time. A high point of the season for Varsity was defeating Dana Hills, last year's league champions. Congratulations to Gloria Faltermier, who won the South Coast League single's championship, and continued into the final rounds of play in the CIF individual tennis tournament. 1 Tennis T Fall 53
