BASKETBALL The 1929-1930 University High School haskethall team had a most satisfactory season, under the fine coaching of Mr. East, considering the fact that only one player was left from last year's varsity. XVith one veteran, Captain Wallace Graham, and several of the last year's re- serves hack, Coach East fashioned a squad which scored 293 points to their oppo- nents' 188, On the team this year were Captain VVallace Graham, Alhert Newman, Kelly Goss, Roderic Howelh john Deo, Richard :'Xnderson, Phillip McCallum, Nesbit Haas, Richard Lorch, and Dana Seeley. The regular line-up this year was composed of Graham and Goss forwards, Anderson or Seeley at center, and Newman and Howell guards. All of the team figured in the scoring column, making a fine offense, While Newman and Howell were largely responsible for University High's defensive record. During the regular season the team scored victories over Northville, Saline, Clinton, Roosevelt CYpsilantij Lincoln Consolidated, St. Thomas, and Milan, They lost to Wayne the first game of the season, and to Chelsea. In the district tournament our team scored a victory over Milan 22-11 which qualified us for the second round, and then lost a heart-hreakinff Game to VVa ne s s Y 10-12 thereby losing our chance to enter the regional tournament. 28
