THE JU 1011 CLASS By DANA SEELEY At last, we. the junior Class are nearing the height of our ambitions after having been in this school for five years. It does not seem possible that we will be seniors next year. XVith a few exceptions the old seventh grade is still intact. NYC can look back on that first year as being a very unusual one for several reasons. First, our original home-room was in charge of Fred East, and the boys and girls were in it together. It was not long before the faculty discovered that it was necessary, for proper order, to separate the two warring factions. This was done in the eighth grade. Freddy was still in charge of the boys' home-room, but the wear and tear was too much for him and he retired to the gentler business of teach- ing athletics, ln this year. one of the most important social events was a weinie roast given for the boys by the girls. Only five boys came, much to the disgust of the girls. However, the boys as juniors are by no means shy, Our freshman year marked the beginning of our best good time. The tradi- tional class picnic was held at Lakeland at the Kirby's cottage. It was a great suc- cess, even if a boatload of us did fall into the lake. To avoid embarrassment the names will be withheld. Next year the picnic was held at the Langford's cottage. It was every bit as much of a success as the first one, and we vowed never to let a year slip by without holding a picnic. That same year marked the rise of the boys in our class to a high athletic standard. They defeated the older juniors consistently and pressed the seniors closely. And now. in our junior year we are going stronger than ever. In athletics the junior boys held nine out of the possible twenty positions on the school's two basketball teams. They also ran away with the interclass basketball championship easily. We are also proud of the record that three of our classmates have compiled in local and state musical circles. On the threshold of what once seemed unattainable we feel that we have gained most of the dignity that one usually attributes to seniors. VVe have set ourselves to carry out the position of seniors as well as we possibly can and hope to continue the Fine traditions of this school as well as it is possible to do. 24
