Fighting B's ...... Hard work, muscle and enthusiasm helped to form this year's GSL Championship B-Squad football team. Some of our more outstanding players were Marty Cosbey, Kevin Drew, Rick Kay, Mike Rootvik, Dave Spragg, Tim Peterson, Jerry Otis, and Chris Neinhaus, said Coach Darril Isotalo. Most of the guys are from Bowdish J.H.S. where they had a championship 9th grade team, and good coaching. The guys developed a lot of enthusiasm about this season. U-Hi is known for it's outstanding B-Squad teams. In the past four years our Hghting B's have won 27 games and lost only 7. The squad considers this a record to be proud of Students generally agree and look forward to seeing their B Champs out on the Held again next year. Varsity Football Takes 3rd Place We had a pretty successful year and even though there were a few disappoint- ments, we never quit trying, stated Senior Quarterback Dan Warren. Dan was chosen the Athlete of the Week by local sportswriters and broadcasters. This award is given to the player considered to have played the best out of all the local games during one week. The Varsity Football team held a 5-3 record in their 3rd season of playing in the Greater Spokane League. They tied for 3rd place with Ferris, whom they beat earlier in the season. Darrell Pope, defensive captain, summed the season up by saying, I feel that we have one of the best coaches around, and that Mr. Holmes should be commended for this tolerance of us this year. Even though we didn't go as far as we expected to, I've enjoyed this year because I had a chance to work with a bunch of great football players and coaches. Left: Football is not all victory.
