English: As Important As Ever English courses maintained their normal importance, according to Mr. Carl Welch, English Department Head. Normal impor- tance means it's a required class for underclassmen and an elective of college and career-bound seniors. Mr. Welch emphasized that 70176 of the U-Hi graduates do enroll in some form ofcollege training and the elective Senior year is very important tor them. 12 Mathematics-the Language Math is the language of all Science, joked Mr. Dave Orahood as he explained why the Mathematics and Science Departments are combined into one unit at U-Hi. The reply was more than just a quick quip. Mr. Orahood emphasized that without a good education in math it is very difficult to advance in any form of science.
