U-High Names Top Scholars Three seniors will lead the class of 379 in academic standings at graduation, according to Principal Jim Stickney. Brent Thordarson earned the coveted number one spot with Jill Blackwell and Donna Nic- ol close behind. Valedictorian and Salutatorian titles honor the stu- dents who have maintained the highest level of aca- demic excellence over their three years at University High. This year's winners were perfect examples of this - all three maintained a 3.9 G.P.A. or better over their three years. Named Valedictorian, Brent Thordarson plans to go to the University of Pudget Sound next fall. Brent main- tained a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. through his high school career. The Salutatorian award is shared by Jill Blackwell and Donna Nicol who both maintained a 3.97 G.P.A. to rank second in the class. Jill plans to attend the University of Washington Engineering School next year and Donna will enroll at Pacific Lu- theran University. au: f 5 l Q1-f' .-'. Scholars Join Honor Societ Honor Society is a club designated for high academic achievers. The organ- ization is strictly honorary, there- fore the group does not sponsor any activities. This is decided by a majority vote of the members at the beginning of the year. Exactly how are Honor Society mem- bers chosen? The applicants apply directly to the National Honor Society for membership. One must also have the requested g.p.a. to iulill the requirements. Sophomores-3.8, Jun- iors-3.4, and Seniors-3.2. Mr. Brown, the Honor Society advisor, said that nearly Zfa of the members receive scholarships and all of them recieve certiicates of membership. He stated, The basic reason for joining, however, is the appearance of it on your record. Honor Society members, Mike Shiosaki, and Lori Shagina demonstrate the high level of intelli- gence maintained by the Society.
