if Sophomore cross-country star Bud McFall finishes a hard two-mile race. Bud's second place led the squad to a team victory. The UHS cross-country team had its most successful season in four years, winning two and losing four dual meets, and placing sixth in the Shortridge Invitational. Three runners will graduate, but the bulk of the improving team, six sophomores and two freshmen, will remain for next season. ross- ounfrcy ana! wresfbnc A cross-country meet is usually run on a city golf course. Here, at the Franklin meet, Bud McFall, Dick McFall, and Paul Irwin run a close second, third, and fourth in the final stretch.

an Class cfivifies The Sophomore Council was responsible for its class dance, funds, and activities. Jay Suer, Bud McFall, Tom Marshall, Dave Rich, Tom Stempel, Jackie Harrell, Janice Witmer, and Charlotte Ellson served during 1956-57. Eight freshmen served on the Freshman Council this year to direct the ninth graders in plans for the first class dance, Rhapsody in Blue. Beth Cresson, Barb Steele, Jane Steinbeck, Ron Rostorfer, Toivo Raun, Chris McEvoy, Alison Householder, and Bill Snyder were elected to the Council. Coach Garland had the services of eight returning veterans as the nucleus of the squad. The Univees won their first three consecutive meets, and Hn- ished the season winning seven, losing four, and tieing one. The team placed sixth in the sectional, with senior Charles Bow- den placing third in the 165-pound class, and junior Kenny Webb winning the 175-pound division.
