arouaela '46 The Carousel Class of Summer '46, under the able leadership of Althea Caravacci and Oscar jimenez, was one of the most outstanding ever to be gradu- ated from University. There were, besides many Knights, Mawandas, and Commissioners, eight Ephebians and fifteen Sealbearers. During the Senior B term, they were headed by Tom Canady as president. His assistants were Dick Kramer as boys' vice president, Pat Hewson as girls' vice president, Mary Beveridge as secretary, and Wanda Case as treasurer. When elections were again held in the Senior A term, john Stone took over the gavel. Dick Kramer retained his position as boys' vice president, Wanda Case became girls' vice president, Donna Turner, secretary, and Peggy Tighe, treasurer. With three years of high school work completed, a number of students who had done exceptionally outstanding work and had proved to be excellent leaders received special recognition. The Ephebian Award, which is presented to one out of every forty graduating students went to Marvin Osburn, who had distinguished himself as one of the finest stu- dent body presidents in Uni history, Pat Cham- bers, james Dunham, Donna Turner, jerry O'Neal, Hope Sterling, Lois Millington, and Craig Marks. The American Legion presented their award for outstanding service to jeanne Rogers and jerry O'NeaI. The Meledonians who had maintained membership for two years were given recognition as Sealbearers. They were Barbara Campbell, james Dunham, lone Ciuyton, jackie Hill, Al johnson, Clarice Kestenbaum, Louise Kosches, Craig Marks, Lois Millington, jerry O'Neal, Lois Pettegrew, Marjory Sampson, john Scantlin, Hope Sterling, and Harriet Warne. In Field Day competitions, the overwhelming number of the Carousels aided in the defeat of the Cariocas. At that same event, the class pre- sented their name, with the help of clowns, bal- let dancers, a ring master, and a huge fire-crack- er, which burst magically, revealing three girls carrying a large sign, with the name Carouseis on it. A gigantic ring side show was presented by the Carousels on their Color Day. The Teen Thirteen backed the excellent entertainment which consisted of the golden voiced tenor, james Dunham, six amazing girl tight-rope walk- ers, a special rendition of Chopsticks by Donna Turner, a group of five fellows in a take-off on Slim Caillard and his Dark Town Strutters, and many other attractions that greatly pleased the audience, Sixteen Carousels presented the colors in a precision march, the girls in red skirts, the boys in grey slacks, and all wearing the white senior sweaters with the red, white, and light blue merry-go-round emblem. Following the formal presentation, the entire class flooded the aisles and the stage to sing their song. Along with recognition in scholarship, leadership, and talent, the class gave us many outstanding ath- letes. Unihi will not forget speedy Don Lawrence who never failed to come through in both football and the sprints. Also pulling always to help bring the Warriors to the top in track were jim Lieben- guth, Bill Blythe, Dick Kramer, Bruce Greenland, jac-k Miller, Tom Kendall, Hank Waltz, and Fred Hawkins. Skin Thomas, john Stone, and jack Dev- lin played good football, while Ned Van Cott and Alan Daly upheld the Reservationists on the basket- ball court. Tom Canady and Bud Felts represented the class on the baseball diamond. With their graduation in june, they take away many of Unihi's top students, but they also take away the very best wishes of all the Warriors, who say, good luck, Carousels of Summer '46l PRESIDENTS john Stone, Tom Canady I i
