They were also given a series of placement tests and a guided tour through fho building. ’’You are invited to the Big-Little Sister Party . Bermudo-dod girls, excited chatter. mocoronl. and gelatin salad were all port of tho Big-Little Sister Porty givon by Pop Club. The vigorous campaign for homecoming queen was climaxed by the coronation, held on the field beforo the gome. Wo were oil thrillod when Mary Marquort wos chosen queen. Tho cry Woterdown Watertown led us to victory and we celebrated at the donee that evening. Heated discussions. that threatened to brook up friendship , corried over info oar classes, ond students worked hard supporting the candidates of their choice. The Democratic and Republican committees prepored on assembly, complete with confetti and o carefully prepared debote. Our own mock election followed the assembly and the Republicans gained a door majority. 31 ’Look out man! Here she comes! The gols chased the guys through fho U-High halls ond, if they played it smart, the boys got themsefves caught and taken to tho Sodlo Howkins Doy Dance. This annuol offolr was sponsored by the Senior Class ond prizes were given for ihe most original costumos. For U-High the open houso,ā€ often held ofter gomes or donees, provided the chief means of informal entertainment and the opportunity for students who lived for apart to get together socially. Commands In German, Spanish, Russian and French Tilled the halls during the annual initiation day. Prospective members of the four foreign languogc clubs tried their best to please the demands of their initiators. Later, eoch of the clubs held their more formal initiation. They participated In school assemblies, a Christmas songfest at South-dale. and a stotewido music contest. Furnishing music for city and campus organizations and caroling ot a hospital ot Christmas time were also Included in the chorus's busy schedule. At the Holiday Hop students and alumni greeted each other goily. Everyono was invited to this festive dance which was given by Federation of Languages in the goily decorated ballroom of Coffman Union. Winter Quarter-1957. 39 A unique feature ot U-High Is a TV station. A generous gronf from tho Ford Foundation mode it possible to enlorge the studio and install better equipment. A cable, laid from U-High to Burton Hall, enabled large numbers of education students at tho University to observe televised dosses.
