The Athens compus is o roinbow of shim- mering energy, this energy enables students to leorn nor only book knowl- edge taught in classes but also culturol knowledge leorned from friends and acquoinronces No one con soy that students ot the Universiry of Georgia are surrounded by o sea of clones, or thot they are ostracized because of their individual- ity. The rrodirion is rhirry years old rhis year and UGA is rhe fourrh bulldowg ro proudly represenr rhe Universiry. UGA IV has srricr dier, saloon borhs and pedicures before every gome. Fluffie, rhe leasr inrimidoring of rhe mascors, vv-as creored in 1975 by Mike Casrronis. Porrroyed by Serb Smiley rhis year, Fluffie Dowg caprures rhe heorrs of children wirh his cuddly fea- rures and rumbling srunrs. In response ro complainrs afrer Geor- gio ' s loss ro N.C. Srore in rhe Final Four in 1983, Frankie Dawg was creored. Erie Norron, rhis year ' s Frankie Dowg, gave rhe fans whor rhey wanred — a meaner dog on rhe boskerball courrs. Hairy Dawg was rhe dreom of 1969 groduore Tom Sopp, Used for per- sonal purposes and logo unril rhree weeks before rhe 1980 Sugor Dowl, Hairy was consrrucred and presenred ro Cooch Dooley as a sign of opprecia- rion and as good luck for rhe members of rhe foorboll ream. Hairy Dowg, porrroyed in 1985 by Par Templeron. Wirh rhe ossisronce of UGA IV, rhese rhree mascors joined ro make life in rhe dowghouse like no orher. Drinking Age 22 As a result of the unpopular new drink- ing age law, students found new places to socialize. Some head- ed to the spa, while others went Kroger- ing. Homecoming Homecoming 1985 provided some new activities and some old traditions. During halftime, Mary Lynn Terry was crowned queen. Concerts ... 82 Sting performed at the Coliseum before students, displaying a new style. The crowd was not a sell-out, but the concert proved spectacular.
