ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND HEAD COACH Wallace Butts Coach Wallace Butts, past president of the National Foot- ball Coaches Association and a member of the Helms Foot- ball Hall of Fame. After 22 years as Coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, Coach Wally Butts resigned to become full time Athletic Director. The Dean of Southeastern Conference Coaches, Coach Butts brought Georgia into national prominence as a football power and has taken his teams to every major post-season bowl. Although his flashy pass patterns have been called the best in the game, hard-nosed defensive tactics have been his trademark. Named SEC Coach of the Year for the fourth time after his 1959 Bull- dogs won the conference crown, defeated Missouri in the Orange Bowl, and finished 5th in the national ratings, Coach Butts refused to put a new man in the position of having to rebuild the team. All Georgians are proud of this great native son, and his presence will be missed as Georgia takes the field in years to come.
