Practically all were strangers, and only six had previous experience on the yearbook. Some dropped by the wayside and others joined us as the season progressed. In a few short weeks this crew of neophytes had molded themselves into a loyal, spirited, and determined group, hard at work on your l950 Seminole. Out of the mass, it is always possible to pick out a few people who are outstanding. People who were the heart of the book, and kept it alive and healthy. Such persons as Mickey McGoon, your Art Editor, and the first coed to hold such a high position in publications. Scared in early summer, but full of confidence and ideas by the time September rolled around, Mickey could only be called outstanding . . . Dubby Matherly, Executive Editor and the man who pasted every class picture in the book with his own sweat . . . Anor Richardson and Bob Hagan, who picked up the Greeks section where someone else had faltered, and double-timed it into existence . . . Ioe Mims, whose patience and tact in dealing with over fifty or- ganizations amazed even the organizations' representatives . . . Iohn Harrison, whose calm poise and reassuring grin while writing our copy had a soothing effect on the rest of the staff... Harold Stringer, Managing Editor and morale builder, who will be remembered best for his lake cottage parties . . . Ioanne Peters, whose good taste and beauty section ideas added glamour to the book . . . Hokie Kerns, administration head, who struggled mightily with the Tallahassee big-shots for pictures . . . Iim Buie, who managed to get his activities section out in spite of the pin-up diversion involved . . . Deacon Ivan Smith, inter- collegiate sportsman, whose constant rendition of I Almost Lost My Mind almost drove us out of ours . . . Van Vanture, Photog- raphy Coordinator, who somehow got through the annual banquet as toastmaster without having the Publications Board cut us off without a cent. In Iune, l95O, these people, and the others listed on the opposite page, walked out of the office as experienced publications men and women. Their training ground had been as rugged as any G. l. obstacle course, as chaotic as Chattahoochee ever dared be, and as fatal to the scholastic average as we dare admit. They had performed duties ranging from laying out a dummy page to promoting a campus-wide beauty contest, and had done them well. A few of the staff left with diploma in hand, but most will be back for a new year and a new plan, rarin' to go on a l95l Seminole. Ou May 31, 1950, the doors of the Snack Shop in Florida Union closed for the last time. Their closing brought a melancholy feeling to those people who spent from nine to twelve months producing your 1950 Seminole . Many rough moments in the editorial offices were lightened by a ucupa cawfee and Mule Train , which stayed on the joolc for what seemed an eternity. Crises were passed, ideas conceived and disagreements settled over doughnuts, cigarettes, and gallons of coffee in this base- ment Maxwell Housev. So it is that the staff picture was taken, on the spot, as you see it below.
