Soccer The soccer Aces set several new records in their second season in Divi- sion I play. Among the new records was the longest, winning streak of 11 games, most goals scored (53), most shutouts (4), and least goals allowed (22). In addi- tion a new record for most wins cata- pulted the Aces to a 13-6 season. Coach Bob Gaudin said that the Aces must have been the best 13-6 team in the country. The coach seems to have been proven right as the Aces moved to tie for the 20th spot in the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America poll. Leading the Aces attack was Papa Jobe who was leading scorer and assists; he made the second team in the All-Midwest squad, was selected for the Senior Soccer Bowl, and a candi- date for Ail-American. The rest of ' the squad proved themselves as well on the field and they were looking forward as an improved team to do battle with some top-notched teams. Among the highlights was the home game against number one ranked lU at Bosse Field that brought around 5000 Evansville fans, a new attendance record, proving the increasing popular- ity of socccer in Evansville. lU won by a score of 1-0 though UE held the line and several times came close to scoring. The highlights did not end with the reg- ular season play because Papa Jobe went to the Senior Bowl and was named Most Valuable Player for scoring 2 goals in under two minutes to give his team a 4-3 victory.
