1979 Basketball Homecoming February 3, 1979 was the climatic day of UE Winter Weekend boasting a large selection of activities vying for student participants. The big loser v as the second annual All-Campus Snow Sculpting Contest: no one showed up despite a nice snowfall the night before. If the campus community was not quite in the mood for morning activity it must have been because it was getting ready for a little Saturday Night Fever . Roberts Stadium was packed to the hilt with enthusiasm that evening as the Purple Aces crossed swords with Xavier, who the Aces had trounced earlier in the season. Halftime was a show of pagentry featuring the Acettes and a presentation of the Homecoming Court headed by Mark Gillespie of Phi Kappa Tau as Bache- lor of the Year. The 1979 Queen was Cindy Clipp of Hughes Hall, crowned by the last Queen, Liz Hyde from 1977. Runners-up were Tim Tyler of Hale Hall and Phi Mu ' s Julie Coombs. The Aces lost the game to the revenge minded Xaviers. The 74-60 score is not indicative of the tough game the Aces played for their faithful fans.
