First-year, veteran players finish victorious This year ' s soccer team was mainly one of first year collegi- ate players ignited by a few very talented veterans. Among the first-year players was Ed Dwyer who led all freshmen in scoring, while Don Hellman was deemed the most consistent of the bat- tling novices. Among the experienced veter- ans was Frank Jackson who con- tributed essential goalie skills and leadership ability. The incomparable Papa Jobe, a key factor in many wins during the season, gained recognition as the state ' s leading scorer and nomi- nation to the ISAA all Mid-East team. Meanwhile. Chris Camp- bell added any extra punch needed to insure a team victory. The team broke numerous records including three All-time records. Coach Gaudin leads team to best season ever The University of Evansville ' s soccer team was led by first year head coach Bob Gaudin to its best season ever. Gaudin. a for- mer All-State soccer player in New York and a four year vet- eran of semi-professional soccer, assumed the U of E coaching duties on September 1 of last year. Before coming to U of E, Coach Gaudin was head basket- ball and soccer coach at Evans- ville Day School. Gaudin ' s pres- ence at the Day School com- memorated his first venture into full-time coaching in Evansville. He was also instrumental in organizing Evansville ' s Elemen- tary Soccer League. In Bob Gau- din ' s earlier days he played high school soccer at Old Forge, New York and was on the State Uni- versity of New York (Potsdam) varsity contingent for four years. In the future. Coach Gaudin plans to recruit nationwide. Above right. Coach Gaudin looks on with approval as the team moves on to a victorious season.
